Approaching a Finish from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. How's your Sunday morning going so far? I won all my word games this morning, and so I'm feeling pretty peppy. Don't worry, though. I'll settle down when the hot weather arrives tomorrow. We're expecting several days in the triple digits. I know a lot of you have been dealing with that for most of the summer. We really can't complain. Our weather has been fairly mild so far this summer.

Knowing it was going to get warm in the afternoon, I went to work first thing to finish up ...

A Finish and a Start from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. There was quite a bit of progress made yesterday on both the sewing and kitchen fronts. My slow-stitching was devoted to hand-stitching the binding on the challenge piece. It took about an hour, and then it was finished. Here's your peek.

Here's how it looks from the back.

And here's your last look at it until the reveal on November 1st. It ended up at 22 x 22 inches.

I'd committed my morning to slaying some more zucchini. When the binding was finished, I went to work first thing trying to cull ...

A Run Around Day from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. With a drive into town yesterday, I didn't expect to accomplish much. It turned out to be a more productive day than anticipated, and so it was a good day. I expect today will be a good day too...mainly because I'm not going anywhere.

Of course, no day can be completely successful without some slow stitching. There was just a little bit left to do on this section of my hoop.

This morning, I'll start on the left side of the piece. The right side is finished. Oops...just as I looked ...

Planning Ahead from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. I'll probably get interrupted as I write. Mike volunteered to make waffles, and I hear him moving around downstairs. I'll just type fast.

The farmer's market outing was successful yesterday. I was on the hunt for beets and fresh dill heads. When I mentioned the dill heads, Erik and Mae offered up some from their garden. I'll get to the beets later on this week, but I came straight home with those lovely dill heads and made some refrigerator pickles. I'd accumulated enough pickling cucumbers to fill a quart jar. Mike ...

Mostly Sewing from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. We've arrived back at Monday again. I hope everyone had a good weekend. Our weekend was very nice. We had warm weather, but not too hot.

My day yesterday started with the first stitches on Block 7 for The Story of My Day quilt.

So...what does this mean anyway? I wasn't exactly sure what the word "soldiers" was referring to, although there was a hint in the pattern that it referred to "toast." And keeping in mind this pattern was designed by Anni Downs in Australia, I figured it was a regional expression ...

Monday's Movements from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's the last day of spring. Summer moves in tomorrow. Yahoo! I know some of you are already experiencing too-hot weather. Here in the Pacific Northwest, it's still on the coolish side. The vegetables are barely grown above seed stage, and so some sunshine and warmth will be welcome.

Yesterday was my day to rest up and relax from all the cooking the day before. Also, it has rained the past couple of days, and so there was no need to do anything in the garden. I think I might have gone the whole ...

Lazy and Rainy from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. The rainy day made us lazy yesterday. I've noticed that sometimes when we reach the end of a day, Mike and I will independently use the same word to describe it. Both of us were slow to move yesterday, and so there wasn't much accomplished. We've already moved into summer mode. With a drizzling rain for much of the day, the outdoor plans we had for ourselves were dashed. And, honestly, what? No weeding? How will we survive a day without weeding? I'm kidding, of course.

So the morning slipped away, and ...

Finishing Small from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was a busy day yesterday. We survived our grocery shopping trip. It wasn't too bad. Our list was shorter than usual, and the store was surprisingly uncrowded for a Wednesday. It's probably because we sandwiched our shopping between Senior Discount Day and the Thursday through Saturday $10 off coupon days. I wish we'd hit our days a little better to save a little more money, but oh well. The uncrowded store was worth the cost.

When we had the groceries put away, we set free the kitties. It's been warm here ...

Some Progress from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. I'd say it's a good morning here, except that it's a grocery shopping day. That's never good. Oh well. I do like the food, so there's that. Yesterday was a day of rest. I had a nice breakfast with Sue, and then came home and filled the bird feeders. I've been checking on the newly-planted carrot seed tape to make sure it stays covered. Everything looked good there. Mike and I briefly discussed the pattern of the automatic sprinklers. It's been very windy, and so the wind is interfering ...

Delight and Discouragement from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's bright and sunny here on this Friday morning. Mike and I have pretty much finished with the winter clean-up of the yard. He spent most of his day yesterday pressure-washing our dirty deck. The place is looking pretty good right now. Bring on summer! Mike has already announced he's going to drive his Corvette today. It'll be a top-down day for him. I'm going to stay home and sew. We'll both be in our happy places.

Yesterday morning had me spending most of my time in the kitchen, but I ...
